Never touched a sewing machine? No idea what a seam allowance, bobbin, or zigzag stitch is? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered!
Join us for two fun and relaxed sessions where you’ll learn the absolute basics while making your very own simple tote bag. This class is perfect for complete beginners and will guide you through:
✂️ Cutting fabric
✨ Threading your machine
🧵 Choosing the right needles and thread
🔄 Winding a bobbin
⚖️ Troubleshooting tension issues
📏 Sewing with a seam allowance, including turning corners and backstitching
🔘 Understanding stitch selection
By the end of the sessions, you’ll walk away confident and ready for your next sewing project, plus, you’ll have a handmade tote bag, perfect for your next supermarket run!
📅 Two three-hour sewing sessions (6 hours total). Come and get stitching with us! Dates TBC.
What You’ll Need
To get the most out of your sewing experience, you’ll need:
✔️ Thread
✔️ 1 metre of fabric (quilting cotton, light weight denim or canvas)
✔️ Fabric scissors
✔️ Pins
✔️ A marking pen
✔️ Ruler or tape measure
No basic sewing supplies? No Problem!
If you don’t own any basic sewing kit items, we’ve got you covered! You can purchase the Sewing Gem Beginner’s Sewing Kit here, and we’ll have it ready for you on the day.
In addition you can also purchase the class kit which includes all the specific things you’ll need for this course, including fabric, webbing and matching thread.
⚠️ A Quick Note on Thread: Cheap or old thread can often cause machine issues. If your thread has been sitting around for years or feels low quality, we highly recommend updating it for a smoother sewing experience!
🧵Please note that access to the teaching space involves stairs. If you'd like assistance carrying your machine to the classroom, just let us know we’re happy to help.

Street parking is available on the roads surrounding the building. Unfortunately we are unable to park on the forecourt as this is shared with other companies.
