Looking for a fun and practical way to learn sewing? Aimed at 11-16 years olds,  our Teen Stitch Club is a five-week after-school course designed to teach the essentials of sewing while making exciting, useful projects along the way.

Perfect for beginners or those with a little sewing experience, this class will guide students through:

🧵 Mastering the basics – threading a machine, stitching straight, and troubleshooting
📏 Reading and cutting patterns – understanding fabric layouts and seam allowances
Building confidence through hands-on projects

Throughout the course, students will create a range of fun and functional items, including:

👜 A simple tote bag – the perfect first project
🎒 A useful pencil case or cosmetics bag – perfect for everyday use

If we move through these projects quickly, we’ll add even more fun sewing challenges along the way, giving students even more opportunities to build their skills and creativity!

If you don’t own the key items needed, we’ve got you covered! You can purchase a class kit when you sign up above, which includes all the specific things you’ll need for this course.

If you decide to bring your own supplies rather than purchase the course kit here’s what you’ll need:

  • Fabric scissors
  • Seam ripper
  • Pins
  • Fabric marking pen
  • Single fold Bias binding (25mm x 3 metres)
  • Matching thread
  • 1 metre fabric for your tote bag (canvas or denim is a good choice)
  • 50cm of main fabric for your cosmetic bag (quilting cotton or similar)
  • 50cm lining fabric (quilting cotton, a cotton lawn or something similar).

🧵Please note that access to the teaching space involves stairs. If you'd like assistance carrying your machine to the classroom, just let us know we’re happy to help.
